Festival of Voices, 2011

Nourish are performing as part of the Festival of Voices. And Saturday 9 July 2011 will see the Festival of Nourish!!

We will be performing at the Cascade Visitor Centre (Cascade Brewery, South Hobart) between 12:45pm and 1.00pm, then we'll move on to The Female Factory (Degraves Street, South Hobart) between 1.30pm and 1:45pm and we're also part of the FoV Aperitivo Concert at the Playhouse Theatre (Bathurst St, Hobart) between 4:30pm and 5:30pm.

So come along for a look-see! Should be a fun day - and Nourish may even kick-on for more singing after the Bonfire!!

Friday with Rachel

Although this blog has been quiet for nearly a year the Nourish Women's Choir certainly has not been!! We continue to meet on Tuesday evenings in New Town and sing our hearts out for an hour and a half.

However, this Friday just gone we were treated to a special workshop with the fabulous Rachel Hore. Rachel joined us from her Blue Mountains home and was wowed by the sunny warm autumn day that Hobart threw on for her. Friday evening was almost balmy with most people quickly shedding their coats, cardigans and jumpers ready to learn some new songs from a master!

We were not disappointed by our two hours immersed in song. We learnt a new warm up song plus two new numbers - one Romanie and the other Pacific Islander (gypsies in grass skirts anyone?!?).

We all loved Rachel and her amazing voice and wonderful arrangements.

And I think that Rachel might have loved us just a little bit too!

And we all love Betsy who is our "something special" (and is often buzzing around in a blur!!).

Now we just need to find somewhere to perform our new repertoire - it has been a while since we were last seen in public!!

What a fabulous performance on Saturday Always so fun and we looked fantastic in pink! Thanks everyone for being there and sounding so fabulous. We were on the news that night and in the paper on Sunday - We are famous!! Looking forward to Festival of Voices doing workshops and performing!

The Butterfly Tree

Hi Betsy,

How are things in Tasmania? My trip to Zambia was very successful, thank you all so much for sending the additional funds, we can definitely use it to sponsor another orphan - sadly there are so many.
I have added another African song, this time a new school at Libala are singing. The charity is also going to launch a song, called 'Change for the Better' for World Malaria Day on the 25th April to raise funds and global awareness. All the details will be posted on the website and hopefully it will be available to download - we are really excited about it!

why the title? ... it sums up the year so far! It is truly a delight to absorb the collective voices each week and truly be "nourished" by you all. There is such a wonderful energy in the group and that is created by every individual each week and I feel so glad to be a part of it.

I have tallied up the donations for January and February (6 weeks) and we raised $104.10.
This means that our small change over 3 1/2 months is going to sponser another childs education for A YEAR... great job everyone and thanks for keeping it up! I will email Jane and donate today!

Thanks to all for a wonderful end of year picnic and sing. Gorgeous St Davids Park, balmy weather and a great bunch of people.. great way to end what has been a really tremendous year!

And thanks to Wikipedia - Tokelau is a territory of New Zealand that consists of three tropical coral atolls in the South Pacific Ocean.

And Lonely Planet says... Tokelau's name is Polynesian for north wind, and it's one of the most isolated places on earth. It takes 20 hours to sail there from its nearest neighbour, Samoa, and you can forget about flying - there's no airstrip. It's largely due to this remote factor that indigenous culture has been preserved on Tokelau to a far greater degree than elsewhere in the Pacific.

Toblerone Mousse Cups

Ingredients

360g chocolate melts

200g toblerone chocolate bar

300ml cream

Method

Melt chocolate and spread evenly around the silicon muffin cases (I use a Chefs Toolbox 24 mini muffin tray). Refridgerate until set then remove from the mould.
Whip the cream.
Melt the toblerone in the microwave (30 second bursts on 50% power) - be careful as it may burn.
Gently fold the melted toblerone through the whipped cream. Fill the chocolate cups with the mousse and refridgerate until serving.
Serve topped with a slice of strawberry (or other fruit) and enjoy!
